VFX Portfolio

This is a showcase of my VFX works, I primarly use Unreal Engine for my work. I prefer to use Unreal 4 but I have been expanding to Unreal 5 to keep up with changing technology. While I prefer to work in Unreal, I have done VFX work in Unity as well and I am comfortable in that engine as well.

Smoke 2023

My first passing into Unreal 5. I layered several Niagara systems on each other to make a smoke screen. I started with a heavy base layer and as I duplicated them and moved up slightly upwards I would thin out the numbers, use less of the particles, and move them slightly slower. At the end I thought it gave a nice effect and the visual obscuring was a nice touch on it.

Snow 2023

This is the base of a project my friend is working on and asked me to help with some effects. The black line is a brush that is going to remove the snow as the player passes over it, giving the visual of trudging through snow. And while this is happening, I modified a Niagara effect of a fountain to make it snow. The effect stacks in a quickly modifiable way to increase both the size and the density of the snow to make it appear more blizzard like, but has the ability to be pinned to the player to only snow on them to save on resources.

Spark Box 2022

This was the first real Visual Effect I did in Unreal where I was super Proud. I used a niagara effect and modified it to make it appear like an ember. And used a random effect on the sparks to give it both a different spacing in the cone of sparks. But it also allowed me to have a random number of them generate with a different lifetime in each use of the box that caused the sparks. I wanted to make it appear slightly different every time to give the effect its own life in the scene.

Fire Asset 2022

This is my first real deep dive into making an entire visual effect start to finish on my own. Using Photoshop to make the series of shapes to be the flames, I then moved it into Unity to run it as a particle effect. The hardest part for me was to make the fire actually change colors, but overall I am happy with the cartoonish look to it.
